how to apply eyeshadowEyeshadow is one of the key parts in you eye makeup and it can give your eyes a different shape and make them look better. On this article I will teach you how to apply eyeshadow in a way to highlight your eyes and make them look better. If you have deep or sunken eyes then you should note that your eyes will look even deeper. Instead of using eyeshadow you can use foundation instead. One of the most important tips on how to apply eyeshadow well is to blend! Blending is important in all makeup and especially when you are blending the different colors of eyeshadow.

You always apply two or three tones of eyeshadow and the colors should blend in a smooth way between the different shades. When you use three colors then you have the base, the main color and the highlight color. The base color is applied on the eyelids first, then the main color and then the highlight in the crease of the eyes. How you should apply the main color for each type of face will be discussed in this article also.

The first step of how to apply eyeshadow is to apply the primer. When you use a primer before applying eyeshadow it will make the end result look smother and it is the difference of makeup that lasts a few hours to a full day.

When you are picking the shimmer or the highlight color be carefull. The shimmer is used to bring out the eyes but too much of it will also bring out the wrinkles and other lines.

How to Apply Eyeshadow on Different Face Types

The main thing you have to remember when you are choosing your eyeshadow colors is that dark colors deepen the eyes and that light colors will make your eyes stand out. Choose the right colors for your face and eye type and have some q-tips near you in case you mess something up.

There are different types of faces and eyes and for each one there is a different technique that you should use to make your face look more appealing:

Wide-set eyes: on wide set eyes you use the dark tone in from the inside corner of the eyelid to the middle of the eyelid and apply the light tone from the center to the outside of the eyelids.

Close-set eyes: if you have close set eyes you have to apply the dark tone of the eyeshadow from the centre to the outside of your eyelides and go beyond the outre corner. Then apply a lighter color from the center to the inside of the eyelid.

Droopy eyes: if you have droopy eyes then you have to apply the darker tone on your eyelid and go upwards in a wing shape. Use the highlight tone under your eyebrows.

Big eyes: In this case you apply the dark eyeshadow tone going outwards and a little bit upwards on the eyelid. The highlight should be just under the eyebrows with a lighter color.

Small eyes: If you have small eyes then you apply the darker tone of eyeshadow on the socket of the eye and the upper part of the eyelid. On the lid you should use a lighter tone of eyeshadow and highlight under the eyebrows.

How to Apply Eyeshadow for you Eye Color

When you are applying eyeshadow you can use different eyeshadow colors to bring out the color of your eyes. You can either match your eye color or you can contrast it, start out by trying out different colors to see how they go with your eyes.

When you are applying eyeshadow you have to choose and apply the highlight color carefully because you want to complete the makeup effect your are trying to achieve. Like I said before, blending is crucial, blend the outside edge of the crease to make your eyes look bigger, be careful because if your highlighter is too close then you may end up with eyes that look like beads. Don’t put eyeshadow on your brow bones because it is exaggerated, keep it simple and put color up to the bone but not on it.

  1. I have used you techniques for eyeshadow and love the way my eyes look. My biggest problem is that no matter what I put on under my lower lid I always end up with black circles under my eyes. I use a powder and sometimes a color cream to cover it. I stil get the smudge. Any suggestions. Thank you.

  2. Great article but I was curious as to which category I fall into. I have average sized eyes that are deep set and about an inch or so apart. Are there any tips for someone like me or do I fall into a category listed above?

  3. This is really good and helps a lot :) But what am I supposed to do if my eyeshadow tends to move to the folds in my eyelid and makes dark lines over where it folds? It looks really bad, and I can’t figure out a fix for it. :/
